Druid Hills played a good ball game against Gordon the second half.

Gordon led the Red Devils 12 to 0 at halftime, but Druid Hills came back to put 13 points on the board in the second half.

“Some of our boys sort of woke up in the second half,” Jim Rakestraw said. “I feel like Gordon has got a good football team. I think the big thing was that Gordon was so dang quick. They were as quick as we were.”

Tommy Southard scored Druid Hills’ first touchdown on a nine yard run.

Mike Goodwin put up the extra point to make it 12 to 7.

Southard scored the second touchdown on a one yard run, capping an 82 yard drive.

Richard McDermott came up with a big play late in the game, intercepting a pass on the Generals’ goal line to stop what could have been their winning drive.

It was McDermott’s fifth interception of the season. Pat Kelley has four interceptions for the season, and Rakestraw gives a lot of credit for his fine secondary to Raymond Farmer, coaching his first year at Druid Hills.

The Devil secondary has allowed only 53 yards average passing per game. Druid Hills totaled 272 yards.

“It’s our homecoming and it’s a big game for us,” said Rakestraw.
