“We had a good game,” said Jim Rakestraw after his Red Devils had beaten Ridgeview 48 to 0. “It was one of those games that everything went our way.”

One big thing that went Druid Hills’ way was the passing game. The Devils completed 10 of 16 passes for 258 yards.

David Middour threw nine times and completed five for 136 yards and two touchdowns, one a 13 yard pass to David Adams for a touchdown and the other a 54 yard pass to Keith Honeycutt for a TD.

Tommy Southard went two for two for 75 yards and one 60 yard touchdown to Tripp Childs.

Honeycutt threw a 23 yard touchdown pass to Childs.

Childs, a wide receiver, threw four and completed two for 24 yards. When he was on the receiving end of the passes, Childs scored two touchdowns and caught three passes in all for 111 yards.

“We hadn’t been throwing a lot,” said Rakestraw, “but this game we decided we could, and we did.”

Druid Hills rushed for 130 yards in 21 attempts, but the total offense for the Devils was 388 yards.

Southard carried eight times for 82 yards and also returned kicks for 82 yards. He scored one touchdown and threw for another while also punting twice for a 36 yard average.

“We had good blocking and good pass protection,” said Rakestraw.

On defense, Dennis Yarbrough had 10 tackles and seven assists, caused two fumbles, sacked the quarterback three times and knocked down two passes.

Mike Cutting had seven tackles and three assists, sacked the quarterback twice and picked up a blocked kick and ran 22 yards for a touchdown.

Richard Fears, a defensive end, had “probably his best game of the year,” according to Rakestraw.
